Summer Institute 2017

Each summer, Sprockets holds our Summer Institute – a training in youth work to help prepare seasonal staff and refresh year-round staff for the busy season of summer programs. This year over 150 youth workers attended from 19 different organizations.

Our morning session was called “Five Practices to Know and Grow,” engaging participatants around five key youth work practices. In the afternoon, a variety of sessions taught skills like building community, reflection, building confidence & motivation in youth, and asking open-ended questions. Supervisors also had a session focused on supporting their summer staff.

Our Summer Institute was a great success and we couldn’t do it without help from our network - thanks to all who facilitated workshops! Thanks to Kurt New (Right Track), Cathleen Carris (St. Paul Public Library at AHCC), Tabitha Mitchell (St. Paul Park and Rec - citywide), Carlo Franco (St. Paul Youth Commission), Jess Harkcom (St. Paul Park and Rec - Edgecumbe), Todd Wallace (Playworks), Craig Sweet (Wilder), Sarah Gerdes(YouthCARE), Hollis Emery (Conservation Corps - MN/IA), Eric Ly (Wilder YLI), and Gin Eckert, (Wilder YLI) and to Parks & Rec staff and the Right Track summer coaches for all of your help!
