Youth Mayor Candidate Forum a success!

On Thursday evening over 150 youth and adults came together at the Mt. Airy Boys & Girls Club to hear from eight of the candidates for Saint Paul mayor about issues that matter to youth. Sprockets teamed up with a group of Saint Paul youth and youth workers affiliated with a variety of organizations to plan and lead the forum.

Barnabus Y'shua, Dai Thao, Elizabeth Dickinson, Melvin Carter, Tim Holden, Tom Goldstein, and Trahern Crews all attended the forum. Initially, the candidates each were in individual small rooms where they met and talked with youth about topics ranging from community and police to youth homelessness to educational disparities, answering questions both from the youth moderators and from audience members. At the close of the forum, candidates all came together to talk about building youth success and incorporating youth voice in their administrations. Candidates made strong commitments to listening to and engaging young people if elected Mayor.

Many thanks to all the Sprockets partners who came together to plan and lead the event. Special thanks to the planning team, the youth moderators and all our volunteers, and to the Boys and Girls Club for generously hosting the event!
