ACES - Monroe Arts Plus School

  • The mission of ACES is to close the academic achievement gap of urban students in grades four through eight. The latest school district analysis showed that when compared to the general student population, ACES students were: • 30 percent more likely to earn one year or more growth in reading. • 23 percent more likely to earn one year or more growth in math. As stated by one ACES parent, "[My daughter] has improved reading skills and is better at turning in her homework due to ACES.” Our program includes: • Dedicated reading and vocabulary time. • Involving families in their ACES students’ education and lives via family nights, regular phone contact. • A 1:5 adult:student ratio that enhances impact by providing small-group and one-on-one tutoring and mentoring relationships. • Engaging ACES curriculum that meets states standards. Team building activities to foster the skills needed to be a strong member of the school and community. • Field trips to a variety of sports games (Twins, Vikings, Timberwolves, etc.) and service-learning opportunities as well. At Monroe Arts Plus School, ACES works with 4th - 6th grade students on Mondays and Wednesdays during after-school and 7th - 8th grade students on Tuesdays and Thursdays during after-school. All of the students in this program attend Monroe Arts Plus School and our program operates out of this specific school site.
