Beacons' mission is to engage young people as leaders and learners from kindergarten through high school graduation to prepare them for success int he 21st Century.
Beacons School Success - Maxfield & Midway YMCA supports youth grades K-5 and their siblings in grades 6-8 through in-person support. Staff follow Covid-19 saftey protocols to provide a safe in-person environment for youth where they have in-person academic support, social interaction with their peers and time to learn other skills through extended-day learning. Priority is placed in staff making sure that Scholars are logging into their distance learning and completing assignments.
Scholars are required to wear masks at all times and temperature checks happen upon arrival at the beginning of every week. We currently do not provide transportation to and from the Midway YMCA Enrichment Center. There is NO COST for participation.
Registration applications are filled out in-person and youth can participate the same day the application is received.
The program schedule is as follows:
2:30 - 3:00pm - Snack (juice, fruit option & crackers or chips)
3:00 - 3:45 - Homework & Academic Help
3:45 - 4:15 - Programming facilitated by Beacons School Success Leads (cooking, dance, leadership, etc.) - topics are selected by the scholars.
4:15 - 4:45 - Exercise (YMCA gym or outdoor activity if weather permits)
4:45 - 5:30 - Continued Programming and or Homework Time
5:30 - 6:00 - Parent Pick-Up (parents will receive progress reports on their Scholar's use of homework time)
Tables, chairs and water bottles are disenfected after each program day. Each Scholar recieves their own backpack with writing utensil, notebooks and other supplies to prevent cross-touching. Additionally, all scholars recieve their own water bottles. Hand sanitizer is provided and used by scholars and staff throughout the program day.
