Better Together

Sprockets attended and presented at the Better Together Conference in Baltimore on February 21-22, 2013.  It was a great opportunity to see that how discussions we are having in Saint Paul mirror discussions happening nationally.

This report summarizes highlights from the conference while providing key lessons and ideas for our network and other city-wide systems in MN.  A couple key highlights are below, but read the full article to get a sense of the national vision on afterschool system building.

  • Speakers Debate Purposes of Afterschool: Academic or Other? (pg 13) - This breakout session echoed the voices of many Sprockets partners in Saint Paul representing both sides of the debate.  Both academic and social emotional impact is important.  See what our colleagues from coast to coast (in Baltimore and Los Angeles) frame their views as well as dialogue that combined both views.
  • Building Provider Financial Know-How (pg 18) &  A Workout to Build Financial Muscle (pg 24) - Nonprofits often face financial challenges to sustain and grow their programs.  Sprockets is excited to be partnering with The Wallace Foundation, Fiscal Managment Associates and Youthprise to bring FMA to Saint Paul for a day long Nonprofit Financial Boot Camp.  This opportunity is geared towards executive directors and finance administrators of organizations with annual budgets of $300,000 or more.  If your organization is interested in receiving an invitation to this training email Kari Denissen.
